Wedding at the Hotel Du Vin

It’s fabulous to be a Tunbridge Wells wedding photographer as there’s such a variety of local wedding venues that are gorgeous to work at and they come in all different styles and sizes!

The Hotel Du Vin is a lovely venue in the middle of town and I was very lucky to photograph Emma and Darren’s winter wedding there. It was a joy to shoot as this pair were so easy going and laid back and totally focused on just enjoying their wedding day.

The Morning

The weather was a typical wet and grey November day not that anyone cared. The Hotels beautiful stylised interiors ensured there were still plenty of beautiful backdrops for me when photographing Emma, Darren and their guests.

Emma got ready in one of Hotels gorgeous suites and had her bridal party on hand to help her get ready. Hair was done by Emily Wood who I have worked with many times over the years and make up by Tania Stevenson Oliver.  Emma looked amazing in her A-Line dress which had a gorgeous romantic look with vintage lace and chiffon tulles.  Darren and his grooms party looked just as smart in their petrol blue suits.  Jim second shot for me on the day and he had some fun with the boys at the front of the hotel in between the rain showers. The bridesmaids wore plum dresses that matched the ties that the grooms wore. The colours worked beautifully for a November wedding.

A Grand Setting for the Ceremony

The ceremony was held in Hotel du Vin’s Lombard Room, an ornate grand room with lots of mirrors that helpfully threw light around the room (any extra light on dark winter days is always a bonus!). Emma got a bit emotional at the start of the ceremony but was soon roaring with laughter, it was so lovely.

An Extra Pair of Hands

The day was presided over by Peter Thompson a Toastmaster that I’ve worked with many times.  He’s fabulous to have around as he moves everything and everyone along at the right time, keeping the day flowing. As the weather was bad, we needed to do the family group shots inside and had to do these quickly after the end of the ceremony but before they started laying tables for the evening. We couldn’t have managed this without Peter’s assistance to herd people, he was such a blessing to have on our side. Couples often don’t consider a Toastmaster as they are not sure what they do or the benefit, but I would certainly recommend giving it some consideration.

After their beautiful ceremony Emma, Darren and their guests headed to Hotel du Vin’s bar area and lounge for the drink’s reception.

Fun Speeches

Everybody enjoyed a sumptuous wedding breakfast and there were some heartfelt and funny speeches that were very well received (and had Emma in stitches more than once!)

At Last!

Evening celebrations started with the cutting of a lovely cake.  Now I don’t know if theirs’s was a long relationship or engagement but their wedding cake topper read ‘finally Mr. and Mrs Wallace!’

Emma and Darren had hired a photobooth with really fun props that got everybody in the party spirit (who doesn’t love a photobooth).  Not that this lot needed much encouragement.  Emma and Darren’s guests were definitely up for a party and it took no time at all to see the dancefloor full.

The Fog!

Later in the day we had some fun trying to get some romantic backlit shots of Emma and Darren.  I used spray fog to create atmosphere around them which was sprayed by Jim but it kept on blowing in the wrong direction. We all had a good laugh trying to get it right but it was worth it as I got some great images.

A lovely family friendly laid-back stylish wedding for this lovely pair.  Congratulations to Emma and Darren for getting married and thank you for allowing me to tell the story of your wonderful wedding day.  Working with fantastic couples like Emma and Darren and getting to shoot wedding photography at Hotel du Vin are what make being a Tunbridge Wells wedding photographer the best job in the world.
