The Bell Inn Ticehurst Wedding Photos | Rachel and Matt
We met Rachel and Matt just over three weeks before their wedding – yes you read correctly! Sadly their photographer had let them down at the last minute but we were absolutely delighted when they asked us to step in and to photograph their big day. I knew their venue, The Bell Inn in Ticehurst, but we hadn’t photographed a wedding there before so we were really looking forward to it and were keen to make the most of the quirky fun details at the venue that we knew would compliment the relaxed and fun day that Rachel and Matt had dreamed of. The Bell is an amazing and eccentric venue stuffed to the brim with vintage antiques and curiosities, including stuffed squirrels and other taxidermy, and is certainly not a usual type of wedding venue!
I arrived nice and early so that I could take a good look around The Bell and capture lots of the details before joining Rachel in The Hush of the Trees room where she was getting ready along with her mum and sister. She was well underway with her make up when I arrived in the expert hands of Jane Mather of Image Trees while Liz Bower from Simply Beautiful Wedding Hair was busy with Rachel’s sisters hair. There were so many beautiful vintage details to photograph in the room that I was spoilt for choice but I did have great fun shooting Rachel’s shoes on a vintage dentists chair! Her bridesmaids had arrived by the time she was ready to get into her Justin Alexander wedding dress and there were plenty of ooo’s and ahhh’s when she did and quite rightly so as she looked absolutely stunning! The room was awash with sunshine by the time a nervous Rachel was ready to leave but I was able to draw the curtains across a little and get a couple of beautiful bridal shots of her before hand. Soon we were on our way and the bridesmaids, looking stunning in navy blue dresses, sashayed down the stairs and waited for Rachel in The Stable with The Table before climbing up to The Big Room for the ceremony ahead of the bride.
The Big Room with it’s amazing wallpaper made for a perfect ceremony and Rachel came down the aisle flanked by lots of church candles on either side. They had decided not to have any readings but the registrar, Kate Dyer, read ‘I want to grow old with you’ by Adam Sandler from The Wedding Singer as a surprise for the couple which was lovely. After the ceremony the couple took a few minutes to themselves in The Snug before doing their table walk in The Stable with The Table so their guests could throw confetti!
The speeches took place in The Stable too and it was a very relaxed affair with everyone standing around the edges, it was certainly something different. After the speeches we took the newlyweds off for a few minutes for portraits before they headed into their wedding breakfast. It was a late wedding in November so we were very happy to be able to get outside for a few shots before it got too dark.
I loved Rachel and Matts reception room styling. Their table planner was a chalkboard with a tag for every guest held onto to the string by tiny pegs. Their favours were miniature Chambord bottles for the girls and Jaegermeister for the boys with tags that read ‘Truth Serum, Love Potion, Pain Killer, Courage Builder’ created by Antonia Peneva who also made their gorgeous invitations for them!
After they had danced their first dance to Lauryn Hill, Can’t Take My Eyes off of You, we took a few shots of their guests having fun with the Photo Booth by The Vintage Photo Booth Company and left them to boogie the night away with their guests. We’d had a great fun day and Rachel and Matt are such a lovely couple!
It was lovely to have Rachel and Matts big day featured on the Show Me The Pretty wedding blog recently entitled The One With The Stuffed Squirrels! Click here to see the feature.
