Penshurst Place Wedding Photographs | Julia and Doug

I love a winter wedding, especially when it’s bright and cold and it was definitely that for Julia and Doug’s late November wedding at Penshurst St John the Baptist Church followed by a Penshurst Place reception.  The added bonus from this wedding was that Penshurst had decorated for the Christmas season and had the most spectacular Christmas tree in the Barons Hall.  This made for a lovely festive backdrop for a shot of the bride and groom later in the evening!

The bride got ready at her parents house and I joined her and her bridesmaids a couple of hours before she left for the ceremony.  Hair and make up for all of the girls was done by Jo Edwards of The Perfect Marriage Hair and Make Up and this was well underway when I arrived.  The bridesmaids looked amazing in their one shoulder bottle green dresses which was a perfect colour for a winter wedding and Julia looked stunning in her beautiful gown with lace over top.

Penshurst Church is a beautiful location for a ceremony, the light is always amazing and the church itself has such a warm and welcoming feel.  After confetti, the couple headed off to Penshurst Place for their reception.  The drinks were served in the Barons Hall where I shot many of the family group photos.

Before the light dimmed completely I took the couple into the gardens of Penshurst Place for some quiet time and a few photos.  Gardens are not at their best this time of year but the architecture of Penshurst really makes up for it.  Adding in an amazing pink purple sky and you have the makings of some beautiful photos.  It’s always lovely to include the backdrop of the church when couples have had their ceremony there and this is easier to do in the winter when there are no leaves on the trees to cover the view!

After the wedding breakfast and speeches in a lovely warm marquee in the inner courtyard, the couple danced their first dance.  Before leaving I took them into the turning circle at the front of Penshurst Place for some night-time shots.
