What an amazing day we had with Jen and Dave for their Horsted Place wedding in June of last year!  We first photographed them when we met for their engagement shoot a couple of months earlier in Dunorlan Park in Tunbridge Wells and we found them to be not only fun but also really relaxed which was just how I would describe their wedding day.

Horsted Place

Horsted Place is a Victorian country house hotel venue with the most beautiful grounds and gardens and Jen and Dave’s was our first wedding there.  We found them all to be so lovely;  incredibly welcoming and very helpful, it was such a pleasure.

Jen and Dave were having both their ceremony and reception at the venue.  Up until the morning of the wedding though they were unsure whether the ceremony could be held in the summer house on the croquet lawn or whether it had to be inside because the weather had been so bad during the week before.  On the day though the sun shone and it was as glorious as any English summer day can be and the rain earlier in the week had given the gardens the most beautiful saturated look; wonderful for pictures!.  Jen and Dave had opted for a riot of colour for their theme and it worked so beautifully with the venue setting.

Getting Ready

Both Jen and Dave were getting ready in the hotel so I joined Jen, her sisters and mum earlier in the day while she was having her make up done by Make Up By Georgia.  It was a very calm morning and I had time to shoot all of her details and her dress before the make up was finished.  The girls looked lovely in their Royal Blue dresses as they helped Jen get into her beautiful wedding gown.  They then headed out to the lawn to get ready for the big event while I took some time for a few bridal portraits with Jen.

The Ceremony and Drinks Reception

I love the way the guests at this venue can watch the arrival of the bride from the moment she steps out of the doorway and onto the lawn, although I’m not entirely sure that a very nervous bride would agree with me!  If Jen had nerves she certainly didn’t show it as she beamed all the way down the aisle to her lovely groom and a very intimate ceremony.  After which the couple walked through their confetti aisle to a drinks reception held on the lawn.  It was the first time we had encountered a steel band at a wedding and it was perfect for this happy sunny summers day!  The band was led by Paul Cherrie of Tropical Entertainments.  During the drinks reception we captured a lot of documentary shots of the guests as we usually do, some family groups followed by some quiet time with the couple just before they headed into their wedding breakfast.  The gardens at Horsted are beautiful and secluded and we found some lovely colourful and quiet areas to capture some shots of the couple while their guests were being seated.

The Evening

After their wedding breakfast and speeches were over the evening started with a bang with the couple walking through an arch of hockey sticks (yes they are hockey players!) held up by their team mates which then led to a few of the hockey playing guests practising a few moves on the lawn!  The dancing then began with a vengeance  in the Terrace Room after Jen and Dave’s first dance.

Here’s a few shots from their very happy colourful day.
