Floral Penshurst Place Wedding

Photographing weddings at one of my favourite venues Penshurst Place and working with fun and laid-back couples like Mary and Jack are what make my job as a Tunbridge Wells wedding photographer my dream job

Bridal Preps

I started the day with Mary and the girls who was getting ready at her parents characterful oast house in the pretty Kent village of Sandhurst. Mary and her bridal party were in good spirits as the hair and make up were being done and there was, of course, a little bubbly on hand to calm any last-minute nerves.

A Vintage MG

My husband Jim was my second shooter for the day and he joined Jack at the nearby Hotel du Vin in Tunbridge Wells before the boys headed to the Leicester Arms pub in Penshurst for a quick drink before the ceremony. From there the boys and the guests travelled to the church in a Routemaster bus while the groom drove a gorgeous vintage MG to the church.

Mary’s chief bridesmaid was her twin sister Catie.  I loved taking the images of just the two of them getting Mary ready into her dress.  It was a special moment and it was a joy to capture it.

Mary looked amazing in her simple elegant dress with hair and make-up by Amanda Tironi Mary looked every inch the relaxed and elegant bride.

A Church Ceremony

The wedding ceremony was held at St Nicholas Church in Sandhurst. The order of service incorporated a floral design drawn by Catie, Mary’s sister and set the tone for a very floral wedding day. There were lots of peonies and eucalyptus in muted pinks, whites and blues in the church and on the arch as the couple came out. Flowers on the day were by the very talented people at Thistle and String in Tunbridge Wells.

I got some images of guests arriving and mingling outside the church and one of my favourites was of the bridesmaids in full Charlie’s angel pose!  Well you have to do something to fill the time whilst waiting for the bride!

After a beautiful ceremony everybody headed back outside and there was a gorgeous white petal confetti moment that I managed to capture.  I love this image as it perfectly reflects theme of Mary and Jack’s wedding.

Drinks and Canapés

Everybody then headed to Penshurst Place for the wedding reception.  Mary and Jack in that gorgeous vintage MG car and guests on the Routemaster bus.  The celebrations started on the bus with some very organised person bringing champagne and glasses! On arrival guests enjoyed a drinks reception in the impressive inner courtyard with musical accompaniment by string quartet Stretto Emsembles and I took the chance to quickly whisk Mary and Jack away for some romantic portrait shots set around the beautiful grounds of Penshurst Place.

An Abundance of Flowers

The gorgeous rustic and floral theme continued with a vintage bicycle at the entrance.  There was also a flower and apple display which was in remembrance of Mary and Catie’s brother with whom they had enjoyed picking apples together. It was lovely to see how Mary had found a way to incorporate her brother into her wedding day.

The wedding breakfast was held in Penshurst Place’s majestic Baron’s Hall.  I always love the little touches at weddings as it tells me something of the couples’ personalities.  At Mary and Jack’s wedding I liked the wedding favours of lavender fragrance sachets and jams. They were typical of the thoughtfulness and charm of their wedding day.

Mary, showing that she meant business, took off her veil and shook her hair down before sitting at the wedding breakfast.  A clear sign to everyone that she planned to relax and enjoy herself and everybody else should too.

The wedding speeches were heartfelt and were received rapturously by everybody.

A Cake Made of Cheese

I must mention the wedding cake.  It was made entirely from different cheeses and looked amazing if not easy to cut!

Evening celebrations kick started with a fantastic first dance that quickly saw Mary and Jack joined on the dancefloor by their loved ones.  And there was a live band to ensure that many of them stayed on the dancefloor for the rest of the evening.

A gorgeously elegant, laid back and charming wedding for this elegant, laid back and charming pair.  Congratulations to Mary and Jack for getting married and creating such a wonderful wedding day for yourselves and your family and friends to remember.
